Risk Management Tools
Plan your exposure, understand potential losses and build a more disciplined trading routine.
Mastering Risk Management Techniques
A clear plan helps you understand the risks of each position before you trade. These tools can support your decisions:
- Stop-Loss Orders: Define an exit level for a losing trade. Gaps and fast markets can result in execution at a different price.
- Position Sizing: Relate your trade size to your account, planned stop distance and the amount you are prepared to risk.
- Diversification: Review exposure across different assets. Positions that move together can concentrate risk even when their names differ.
- Hedging: An offsetting position may reduce a particular exposure, while introducing costs and other risks.
- Risk/Reward Ratio: Compare your planned potential loss with a target gain. A favourable ratio does not guarantee a successful trade.

The Need for Risk Management Tools
Make risk decisions part of your trading routine:
- Safeguarding Capital: Set exposure limits and consider how much a losing position could affect your account.
- Consistency: Document your trade plan before entry and review the outcome afterwards.
- Discipline: Use clear exit conditions and avoid increasing risk simply to recover a previous loss.
Position Risk Calculator
Estimate a position size from your own inputs.
Estimated lots = (balance × risk % ÷ 100) ÷ (stop distance × USD value per point per lot). Check your instrument’s contract specification. This estimate excludes fees, gaps and slippage.
